By Hawaii standards, the booth price at the 2004 Fiery Food Challenge and the jet
fare to Fort Worth were cheap and we'd never been vendors in a Food Show, only
attendees. We only had a couple of accounts on the Big Island for our new Hula
Girl Chipotle Habanero Hot Sauce and so we entered the product in the Fiery Food
Challenge and forgot all about it till we got there. We really only went
to Fort Worth because we thought it would be a sort of working vacation and
we could try out Tex-Mex food and those delicious Texas baby back ribs. At the Trade Show awards dinner, we won 1st Place in the Hot Sauce category and the people at our table were explaining to us how this would help our hot sauce sales big-time. About an hour went by and we were exhausted and about to go back to our room when one of the hosts signaled us to come up to the front. We were sitting way in back and weren't even aware that we had won the grand prize, the Best of Show Award among over eight hundred other products at the show. |
It just so happened that High Noon Productions was filming an hour long Special for
the Food Network Channel called "All Fired Up". It aired about nine months later
and the Food Channel used it as a filler many times to this day. It
helped our sales a lot. The LORD certainly has a sense of humor. |
